During my silence here on Burning Bushes, I was doing a good bit of reading, well at least more than I was doing previously. As I catch up with you, I thought I’d share some of the books I’ve enjoyed.
One of the first was As For Me and My House by Walt Wangerin. The book was given to me by a college mentor for our wedding. I started it then, but honestly was full up on marriage books at that time and figured I had the whole thing figured out (before I even got started).
Four and half years and a good dose of humility later, I decided to give it another try.
The book is divided into several sections and is highlighted with details of Walt’s own marriage story. The book is worth its cost for the Forgiveness section alone. I found myself enthralled by his own story and trying to sneak a peek at later chapters to see how everything turned out.
Whether you’ve been married for decades, you’re still counting the days and months of nuptial bliss, or you’re not even sure if God has marriage for you on this Earth, I think As For Me and My House has something to offer. The book gave me a fresh perspective on my marriage and reminded me of the beauty and mystery contained in this incredible relationship that can sometimes feel mundane or everyday. Further, the section on forgiveness and his notes about loneliness are memorable lessons that can be applied to nearly every relationship.
