‘No’ is one of their favorite words (perhaps because they hear me say it too often). And too often, their answer is ‘NO,’ when it should be ‘YES.’ So, inspired by, Mo Willems’ Don’t Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus (a much loved book that asks kids to say, ‘No’ again and again) and Give Them Grace (a book that is opening my eyes to the moralistic methods I’ve been using with my kiddos), here are 5 things your kids can yell, ‘NO’ to.
1Are you perfect? (Luke 18:19)
3Can Jesus love you any more or less? (John 15:13)
4Will Jesus refuse to help you if you ask Him? (Matthew 7:7-8)
5Are you hopeless since you can’t keep ALL of these rules on your own? (Romans 5:3-5)
So, let your kids yell ‘NO,’ all they want. And if you’re like me, you should probably let yourself answer ‘NO’ to these, too.
Remembering again that I’m NOT perfect and CAN’T keep His law on my own, I’m so thankful for the YES of Jesus-that He loves and helps and gives hope even when all we want to say is, ‘NO.’
