If You Can See the Sky Today

in Prayer

I sit in a field with my girl and her preschool friends on a Friday.  The wind is blowing just enough, the sky is the perfect shade of light blue with white lines of puff.  The feel of the air is almost too pleasurable to breathe.  No need for jackets or short sleeves, no need for mittens or sun hats…the air just seems to kiss our skin.

The girls hold brown paper bags and gather acorns, piles and piles of acorns.  And I sit down, just for a minute. I feel the weight of my belly, the weight of what’s coming, the weight of my burdens and fears. But I let the weight just sit and turn my eyes to the sky…

And I hear this-

‘Ah, Lord GOD! It is you who have made the heavens and the earth by your great power and by your outstretched arm! Nothing is too hard for you.’  Jeremiah 32:17

I lay the weight of the day down, the little worries that steal my peace, the frustrations that steal my joy, the disappointments that make me love-less.  I lay it down and lift my hands.

If I can see the sky, then let this be my prayer…

‘Nothing, NO thing, not one thing is too difficult for you Lord.’ The girls carry back piles of acorns-and we talk of seed-like faith.  How a small prayer like this one can turn us tiny acorns into oaks of righteousness.

Can you see the sky today?  Then let this prayer undo your doubting…

‘Nothing is too difficult for you, Lord.’
