Mary Kay…Redeemed

in Everyday Redeemed

I know there’s a wide variety of opinions out there as to how much makeup a Christian woman should wear.  But, whether you’re rocking the Tammy Faye look or you’re going for Amish plain, it seems that we women ALL spend some time working on our faces, even if it’s simply plucking eyebrows, washing our face, and putting on chapstick.

I do wear a bit of makeup and sometimes get a little tired of the ordeal…having to do the same routine everyday (similar to shaving my legs-though that doesn’t happen everyday, of course).

Sooooo…why not use this time, whether it be 5 minutes with toddlers climbing up your legs to grab your blush brush or 50 minutes in your private bathroom, to pray meaningful prayers that will create a  beauty that will far outlast my efforts to make myself a bit more presentable? Here are some prayers I’m starting to pray in order to redeem this makeover time.

FACE

“The LORD bless you and keep you;the LORD make his face shine upon you and be gracious to you; the LORD turn his face toward you and give you peace.” Numbers 6:24-26

Lord, help me long for you to look toward me today.  Give me a longing to see your face-so full of grace and peace.  Help me to not look to others to do for me what you alone can do. Remind me that even as my face changes and becomes less and less perfect in the years to come, that my countenance can actually become MORE BEAUTIFUL if I’m spending the years looking away from myself and toward your face.

I sought the LORD, and he answered me; he delivered me from all my fears. Those who look to him are radiant; their faces are never covered with shame. Psalm 34:4-5

EYES

I lift up my eyes to the hills—where does my help come from?My help comes from the LORD, the Maker of heaven and earth. Psalm 121:1-2

Lord, turn my eyes away from worthless things today. Turn my eyes to you today when I’m longing for help or when I see my own failings. Help me to see the beauty of your creation-your world and your people.  And when I’m not loving my own reflection in the mirror, remind me that as I look at Christ, you are slowly changing me to look more like Him.

Dear friends, now we are children of God, and what we will be has not yet been made known. But we know that when he appears,we shall be like him, for we shall see him as he is. 1 John 3:2

LIPS

The lips of the righteous nourish many, but fools die for lack of judgment. Proverbs 10:21

Lord, please keep these lips from speaking gossip or evil things today.  Use these lips to bless and not to curse. May my words nourish others and be used in your kingdom to help others grow.

Then we will no longer be infants, tossed back and forth by the waves, and blown here and there by every wind of teaching and by the cunning and craftiness of men in their deceitful scheming. Instead, speaking the truth in love, we will in all things grow up into him who is the Head, that is, Christ. Ephesians 4:14-15

U Turn

What do you think of this idea?  Any other prayers of Scriptures that come to mind for your particular beauty routine?

So funny you did this today. I posted something, not exactly similar, but about make-up yesterday.

I love the idea of prayerfully caring for our bodies.

I think you have a great perspective on this! I love how you are so creative in taking everyday situations and using them as a means to check in with the Lord. Thank you :)

Wow, this is so awesome. The Lord has opened my eyes lately to using that time too! “Pray without ceasing” has been running through my head so much lately. I love your ideas and your prayers. Mine is a LOT simpler (meaning my prayers are DEFINITELY not as eloquent LOL) I’ve been using that time as a “praise and thanksgiving” time. Dear Lord I thank you for my eyes, I thank you that I can see, please help me to see the good in people not the bad…” that kind of thing. Thank you for this idea, I will add it to my routine :)

Thanks so much for this post. I have been looking for some verses to post in our bathroom mirror as my girls are spending more time in there now. We have been teaching and learning about what is important and letting the Glory of God be our idea when dressing and preparing.
Thanks again!
